Labour leader Joseph Muscat yesterday said he would be asking people to take to the streets and stage a protest against the way the government was leading the country. (Times)
They’ll soon be telling you that you are not cool Joe. And they’d be right. You may gift wrap your “Issa Daqshekk” Union in new clothing all you like. You may walk like the nationalists and talk like the nationalists all you want. You may claim to be progressive until the cows (and undecided) come home. What you are doing though is simply proving, like others before you, that you are capable of being a protester – a noisy opposition.
Funny but I was labouring under the impression that we already knew that there were masses upon masses of disgruntled voters – and of people who have had enough of the way the government is leading the country. Did we need Inhobbkom Joseph and his “demonstration” (sic) to find that out? Tell me… what use will this “demonstration” (sic) be other than a bloody nuisance of a whinger get-together. Wouldn’t Joseph be cooler if he concentrated on studying his plans for government – a good tip would be to start from outlining a core set of values which the disgruntled people should expect from a possible future labour government. I don’t vote for anyone on the basis on the noise he or she makes but on the quality of their propositions.
And finally here’s a tip with regards to not giving clues about where your priorities lie:
“Dr Muscat also expressed satisfaction at Ireland’s Yes vote for the Lisbon Treaty, which brought Malta closer to getting its sixth seat in the European Parliament.”
A footnote to his “demonstration” (sic) plans – Muscat “expressed satisfaction” (sic) at Ireland’s vote for the Lisbon Treaty. “Closer to getting its sixth seat in the European Parliament”???? Is that what the Lisbon Treaty means to Muscat? A sixth bloody seat? Is that the sum total of what the Lisbon Treaty is about?
Jesus Wept (again). Uncoolness is not a state of being… it’s an epidemy!
One reply on “PL plans demonstration against government”
Both leaders expressed satisfaction about the 6th seat and are on record for saying so. The inferences are clear. They either are not so sure themselves about what the Constitution cum Lisbon Treaty contains or they think we are all too stupid to understand it.
At the moment if one had to randomly ask people in the street what the EU means to them and how it has affected their lives the replies will mostly be blank looks. There will be the PL smartasses who will gloat about the 6th seat going to Joseph Cuschieri, the PN smartasses who will tell us how convenient it is to travel without passports and without having to go to the bank to change money. Then we may get those who may have heard that the Gov is in a right royal panic about pollution and PM10 emissions exceeding the norm; not because theyre deadly but because we have to pay a hefty fine. The 7 exceptions were outlined 2 years ago and nothing was done. Once cannot even report a belching car or bus or thuck or van anymore by sms despite the fact that it ‘gently’ reminds you not to do while driving!
So let us savour our 6th seat when it comes; I believe the Czechs and the Poles still have to ratify this Lisbon thingy, and then hope that we will not be fined out our brain when the rest of the exceptions from the original 7 fall due………………
